FANS GIVE THEIR VERDICT ON LIKELY CHAMPIONSHIP UPS AND DOWNS

Dean Smith’s Canaries backed to bounce back to Premier League once again, with supporters also naming relegation candidates

NORWICH have been backed to make it a hat-trick of instant Premier League returns - and Teemu Pukki will bang in the goals to take them there.

The Canaries have been rivalling Fulham for the tag of ultimate yoyo club of late, having gone up and gone down in each of the last four seasons.

Dean Smith is hoping to make it three consecutive promotions to the top flight this term for the East Anglian outfit.

The majority of Championship supporters feel he will manage it too, as nearly 700 of them voted as such in Sky Bet’s Fan Survey for the 2022-23 campaign.

Norwich were picked as most likely of all clubs to finish in the top six, with a 41 per cent majority feeling they will also go up automatically.

While in the top-scorer stakes for the term, most fans feel another Pukki party is on the cards.

The Finn has hit 55 goals in his previous two Championship seasons, and that has led to him receiving a huge 32 per cent of the vote for the division’s highest goal-getter.

Blackburn’s Ben Brereton-Diaz was a distant second, followed by Sheffield United forward Rhian Brewster (despite missing much of last season with a serious hamstring injury) and West Brom’s Karlan Grant.

There were also shouts for relegated strikers Emmanuel Dennis and Ashley Barnes, of Watford and Burnley respectively, Bristol City’s Andi Weimann and Swansea’s flying Dutchman Joel Piroe.

Sunderland’s Ross Stewart - AKA the Loch Ness Drogba - was an outside bet.

Norwich were also picked as the No1 choice to win the division, just ahead of Vincent Kompany’s Burnley.

The Clarets were second most likely to finish in the top six too, followed by Sheffield United, Watford, Middlesbrough and West Brom.

Carlos Corberan’s Huddersfield, who lost in last season’s play-off final, were next, just ahead of QPR and Blackburn who both have new managers this season.

If Norwich are the peak Championship-Premier League yoyo side, then Rotherham take that title for League One to the second tier.

Their habit under boss Paul Warne of bouncing between the two divisions is expected by to continue, with the vast majority of fans making the Millers favourites for the drop.

Wigan, Reading, Blackpool and Birmingham are also fancied to go down - reflecting how their own supporters, sadly, feel about their upcoming campaign.
