NEW SIGNINGS MAKE NORTH LONDONERS SERIOUS SILVERWARE CONTENDERS, SAY FANS

Arteta’s men can win something, say fans, while Manchester United supporters now confident of making top 4

ARSENAL have splashed the cash for the second summer running and now their fans are starting to believe.

The Gunners broke the £100million barrier a year ago bringing in the likes of Aaron Ramsdale, Martin Odegaard and Ben White.

They have backed it up this close-season too with Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Vieira all snared.

Throw in a 4-0 thumping of London rivals Chelsea in pre-season and it all adds up to Gooners feeling a trophy is within their grasp this year.

Asked if they felt silverware was realistic this season as part of Sky Bet’s Fan Hope Survey, 84 per cent of Arsenal supporters surveyed said yes.

That is up 11 per cent from when they answered the same question a month ago, showing how close-season business and pre-season performances have captured the imagination.

Manchester United were the biggest jumpers between July and June, going up 21 per cent as nearly two-thirds of their fans quizzed feel a trophy is possible.

United fans also posted a significantly better average predicted finish in the league compared to a month ago, going from 4.7 to 4.1.

Nottingham Forest leapt a whopping 1.4 places to 11.3, following the arrivals of Jesse Lingard, Dean Henderson, Omar Richards and more.

Yet Manchester City and Liverpool followers suddenly feel less confident after the last month, with both dropping to 2.1 from 1.3 and 1.4 respectively.

It could be a knock-on effect to the significant change to their front lines this summer with Raheem Sterling as well as Jesus leaving City and Sadio Mane exiting Anfield.

Meanwhile, Wolves had a significant fall to an average finish of 8.6, with fans seemingly not wholly impressed by their club’s work in the transfer market so far.

Supporters were also asked again if their manager was the right man to take them forward.

Overall supporters were emphatically behind their current man in the dugout, with least-backed Frank Lampard still copping a 76 per cent approval rating.

There was good news for Southampton chief Ralph Hasenhuttl, who saw his numbers go from 66 per cent in June to 81 per cent in July.

Brendan Rodgers also enjoyed a similar rise up to a near-perfect 96 per cent backing.

With money reportedly tight at Leicester, supporters appear to be valuing the former Liverpool and Celtic boss more than ever.

Marco Silva was the only manager to suffer a significant fall - albeit from 89 per cent to 86 - perhaps as a result of Fulham’s 5-1 mauling by Benfica.
