SPURS FANS NAME HARRY KANE REPLACEMENT

Sky Bet’s Fan Hope Survey reveals changing of the guard at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

TOTTENHAM fans have a new favourite Son.

For more than half a decade, goal king Harry Kane has been the fanbase’s most idolised player for obvious reasons.

But there has been a shift in the last year with team-mate Son Heung-Min now seen as the club’s most valuable player.

Spurs supporters were asked who is more important to the club now, Son or Kane, as part of Sky Bet’s Fan Hope Survey.

The results were tight but it was the South Korean who edged it with 58 per cent of the vote.

It shows just how far Son has come in the last few years, and particularly under Antonio Conte last season.

Son, 29, finished the season with a career-best 23 Premier League goals, which saw him share the Golden Boot with Liverpool’s Mo Salah.

He will surely join the top flight’s 100-goal club in the coming season, with just seven more to score before he reaches that target.

Although interestingly, Premier League fans who took part in the survey feel Kane has much more of a chance of being the division’s top-scorer this term than Son.

Kane took 19 per cent of the vote when 1500 supporters across all clubs were quizzed on the upcoming season’s most lethal goal-getter, behind top-choice Salah and Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.

While Son was fifth on the list with eight per cent behind Cristiano Ronaldo.

Spurs fans are going into this campaign feeling buoyant after a number of signings, including Richarlison, Yves Bissouma and Ivan Perisic, and Champions League football to enjoy.

Conte claimed he pulled off a “miracle” finishing in the top four last term but expectations appear to have elevated this time round.

Seventy-five per cent of the 80 Tottenham fans quizzed feel the Italian needs to win a trophy this season for it to have been deemed a success.

While 68 per cent cannot see Conte staying longer than one or two years, having made a habit of short stays previously in his career with Chelsea and Inter Milan.

The nearest Spurs have come to winning the Premier League title came in 2016 when they were in with a chance until late in the season.

But in the end, they finished third as Jamie Vardy and Co helped Leicester complete the greatest top-flight story ever told.

That Spurs squad was filled with talent at the top of their game, including Dele Alli, Mousa Dembele, Christian Eriksen, Toby Aldeweireld and Kane.

Yet 75 per cent of Spurs fans surveyed think the current crop actually has more potential, suggesting they could be in for a very special season indeed.
