FAN SURVEY REVEALS PREM’S BEST EVER ATTACKING DUO
The record-breaking pair finished second behind iconic strikeforce in Sky Bet’s Fan Hope Survey
HARRY KANE and Son Heung-Min may be Premier League record-breakers together - but an Arsenal pair still pips them as the top-flight’s greatest attacking duo.
Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry were voted the division’s most devastating couple in Sky Bet’s Fan Hope Survey.
Canvassing opinion from more than 1500 supporters of the 20 top-flight clubs, Arsene Wenger’s perfect two-man strikeforce took 19 per cent of the vote.
Tottenham’s telepathic Kane and Son, who broke the record for most Premier League goal combinations in February, were second on 11 per cent.
Sadly we will no longer see the combo that finished joint-third of Sadio Mane and Mo Salah, after the former left Liverpool for Bayern Munich this summer.
Cristiano Ronaldo is still going strong at Manchester United but it is his relationship with Wayne Rooney from yesteryear that sees him enter the list also at joint-third.
While Alan Shearer, the league’s greatest-ever goalscorer after blasting 260 with Blackburn and Newcastle, won nine per cent for his SaS Rovers partnership with Chris Sutton way back in the mid 90s.
Supporters were also asked to vote on who they ranked the top flight’s current best player and finest young prospect.
Reigning champions Manchester City came top in both categories, with Kevin De Bruyne (32 per cent) comfortably beating next-best Mo Salah (20 per cent) for the best player title.
Belgian superstar De Bruyne, 31, is known for his pinpoint passes more than his goals, even if he is a pretty lethal finisher.
Still, you have to admire the seven per cent of fans who fancy him as a Golden Boot winner this year.
With regards the young category, the players that were eligible had to be 21 or younger on July 1 2022.
Back-to-back PFA Young Player of the Year winner Phil Foden romped to first place with 41 per cent of the vote, which was more than double next best Bukayo Saka.
Curiously, Chelsea’s Billy Gilmour came third with seven per cent, despite an indifferent loan at Norwich.
Honourable mentions went to Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey, Liverpool duo Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott, Arsenal pair Emile Smith Rowe and Gabriel Martinelli, Leicester’s Wesley Fofana, Southampton right-back Tino Livramento and Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi - the youngest regular starting centre-back in the Premier League last season.
