PREMIER LEAGUE FANS FIRE WARNING SHOT AT NEW UNITED MANAGER

Klopp’s quadruple tilt gives him edge in battle for top bosses, while fans say Ten Hag could be first to go

JURGEN KLOPP may not have pulled off the quadruple last season - but he won the hearts and minds of fans across the Premier League with how close he came.

The German led Liverpool to within a whisker of the unprecedented feat but ultimately came away with only the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

He lost the Champions League final to Real Madrid and was pipped to the league title by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

And yet it was Klopp who was voted the best manager in England’s top flight by a considerable distance when 1500 supporters took part in Sky Bet’s Fan Hope Survey.

The Reds icon clinched 39 per cent of the vote, beating counterpart Pep by 13 per cent, in the poll ahead of the new campaign.

It marked a seismic shift from a year ago when Guardiola won it by a street.

Best of the rest was Antonio Conte, who showed his class by taking Tottenham back into the Champions League last season.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, Frank Lampard was voted the worst manager in the division AND the most likely to be sacked first this season.

Supporters clearly had no time for the clutch of English starlets he brought through at Chelsea nor the rescue mission he pulled off at Everton last term.

He was followed in both categories by Leeds chief Jesse Marsch, who already looked like he had the impossible job following the iconic Marcelo Bielsa.

It looks even more that way now given Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha have been sold.

Meanwhile, spare a thought for Erik Ten Hag.

The new Manchester United chief has not even managed a game yet in the Premier League and yet was voted the joint second-worst manager in the division, along with Marsch.

Ten Hag was also third likeliest to get his P45 first, which would be astonishing given how hard United worked to hire him.

Southampton’s Ralph Hasenhuttl was next, followed by the managers of the promoted clubs Nottingham Forest, Fulham and Bournemouth.

Eddie Howe also got a shout, even if he looks like he can do no wrong at Newcastle right now.

Worryingly for Hasenhuttl, he was the least backed by his own fans when each club’s supporters were asked if their boss was the right man to take them forward.

Yet West Ham’s David Moyes was among those looking bulletproof, and Aston Villa’s followers are steadfast in their backing of Steven Gerrard.

Patrick Vieira at Crystal Palace, Graham Potter at Brighton and Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea are all on solid ground.

There were a few murmurings of discontent at Wolves, Leicester and, surprisingly, Brentford, though the vast majority support Mssrs Lage, Rodgers and Frank.

Klopp had more reason to bear that famous grin after upstaging adversary Guardiola in another category.

Fans of every single Premier League side - barring Manchester City, obviously - said they would rather work under the former Borussia Dortmund gaffer if they were a player.
