SPORTING LIFE – INFOGOL SELECTIONS IN CHAMPIONSHIP OUTRIGHT

Yo-yoing Norwich backed to bounce straight back up

The Sky Bet Championship was again a rollercoaster ride last season, and there is no reason to think this new campaign will be any different.
Last term, two of the relegated Premier League clubs claimed automatic promotion, and with the riches of the Premier League in comparison to the rest of the footballing pyramid, it’s highly likely that at least one team relegated from the top tier last season will bounce straight back up.
Teams who drop down a division are finding it increasingly easier to keep their squads together thanks to the parachute payments, but, this time around, only one team has a manager in place who has plenty of experience and success at this level.
I am talking about the ultimate yo-yo club NORWICH, who maintained the services of Dean Smith despite relegation.

The Infogol model gives the Canaries a 14% chance of winning the title, the joint-highest along with Watford, but preference is for Norwich given the fact that Dean Smith has had plenty of success at this level.
He won promotion from the Championship not long ago with Aston Villa in 2018/19, and add to this the fact that Norwich boast a squad that is practically untouched from their 21/22 Premier League campaign, and they are the team to beat.
After all, they have won the league title the last two times they have been in the Championship, although from a betting stand point, backing NORWICH TO BE PROMOTED makes most appeal.

The Infogol model is really bullish on who the top six will be in this season’s Championship, with a chasm between the percentage chance of Watford, Norwich, Sheffield United, Middlesbrough, West Brom and Burnley and the rest of the league.

Selection-wise, SHEFFIELD UNITED and MIDDLESBROUGH look the standout bets in the TOP SIX market.

Both of those sides improved drastically after changing managers, with the Blades ranking as the fourth best team in the league based on xG under Paul Heckingbottom and Boro ranking sixth best under Chris Wilder.
Given the summer windows both have had, there is no reason to think their underlying levels will drop this season, with both teams keeping their squads more-or-less intact.
There is one other team that warrant discussion as we dissect the TOP HALF of the Championship, and that is LUTON.

Nathan Jones’ side again appear to be being underrated, despite finishing sixth last season (7th on xG) and having a strong transfer window.
They racked up 75 points last term yet are a generous price just to finish in the top half of the division this season, a bet that must be backed.
