WHO DO FANS THINK WILL WIN THE PREMIER LEAGUE GOLDEN BOOT THIS SEASON?

Premier League fans quizzed on season outcomes including likely top six and relegation candidates

ERLING HAALAND has been backed to do what Zlatan Ibrahimovic could not - but he still will not out-shoot Mo Salah.

That is the verdict of the 1500 or so Premier League supporters who took part in Sky Bet’s Fan Hope Survey ahead of the new campaign.

Those surveyed reckon Haaland will be a big hit in England’s top flight and buck the trend of classic centre-forwards who have found life difficult in a Pep Guardiola team.

Ex-Manchester United forward Zlatan is the prime example of that, having struggled at Barcelona under Pep.

Yet when it came to voting on this season’s Golden Boot winner, you cannot beat someone who has been there, done it and bought the T-shirt.

That person comes in the form of Salah, who will have renewed enthusiasm after signing his fresh, three-year deal at Liverpool.

Voters narrowly went for the Egyptian king to take the Premier League’s version of the pichichi, and he took home 23 per cent of the poll.

Haaland, who hit a frankly ludicrous 62 goals in 67 Bundesliga games for Borussia Dortmund, had a 22-per-cent share.

Harry Kane was next on 19 per cent, showing how fans expect the England captain to be firing on all cylinders after his funk in the first half of last season.

Next was Cristiano Ronaldo - providing he is still playing in the division - and then Son Heung-Min, who shared the Golden Boot with Salah last term.

Kevin De Bruyne took a surprising seven per cent despite being more renowned for his killer passes than his goals - as impressive as his finishing is.

Outside shouts came for Gabriel Jesus, now Arsenal’s main man; Salah’s team-mates Antonio Nunez and Diogo Jota; Newcastle hitman Callum Wilson and evergreen Leicester hero Jamie Vardy.

Those polled were also quizzed on who they thought would finish in the top six but the results were predictable with City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal and United all selected and in that order.

The most-tipped club to upset that Big Six applecart was West Ham, having come close in recent years under revitalised David Moyes.

As for the drop, again the results were as you may expect with all three promoted sides, Bournemouth, Fulham and Nottingham Forest, favourites to go straight back down.

Nearest to that newbie trio were Brentford, then Leeds, Wolves and Brighton.

Interestingly, despite their own fans predicting disaster, Everton and Southampton are not thought of as relegation dead-certs by the rest of the division’s supporters.
