PREMIER LEAGUE FANBASE MOST UNHAPPY WITH OWNERSHIP REVEALED

Majority of fans feel let down by football’s governing bodies and have concerns over how the game is funded

MANCHESTER UNITED have swapped managers again in a bid to kickstart their post-Fergie era.

But no matter what miracles new man Erik ten Hag conjures up, the majority of Red Devils supporters are clear on where the most significant change really needs to happen.

Voting in Sky Bet’s Fan Hope Survey, the United followers who had their opinions canvassed sent a blunt message to the Glazers: We want you out.

Fans of all clubs were asked whether they would prefer their owners to stay or go and the United results were 81 per cent in the latter category.

It was by far and away the most damning indictment out of all 20 clubs towards the people at the top.

Everton were next most unhappy at 61 per cent, followed by West Ham.

At the other end of the spectrum, United’s arch-rivals Liverpool were the most supportive of their current owners.

They were followed by Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Leicester, all of whom have largely worked the transfer market well in recent years.

Unsurprisingly, United fans were also the least convinced that owners care about supporters, followed by Arsenal who have had a frosty relationship with Stan Kroenke over the years.

Brighton were among those at the other end of the spectrum and rightly so given owner and super Seagulls fan Tony Bloom has pumped so much cash into his boyhood team.

Supporters of Brentford, another relative newbie to the top flight, also tipped their hats to the people running their club.

Manchester City supporters were almost unanimous in their belief that their club is well-run after a decade or so of scintillating success.

While newly-promoted Nottingham Forest have been praised by their supporters in the same way for finally getting their act together after 23 years in the doldrums.

The subject of ownership is often one that produces heated debates in newspaper columns, message boards and radio phone-ins.

Plights of football institutions like Bury and Derby have put further scrutiny on the rules allowing people to own clubs.

The same can be said after Newcastle were taken over last season by an organisation heavily-funded by cash from Saudi Arabia, a country with a very questionable human-rights record.

More than 1500 supporters were quizzed over whether the fit-and-proper ownership tests were serving our game and the answer was emphatic: 69 per cent said ‘No’.

Yet Newcastle followers were the least bothered by where their club’s cash comes from, with 59 per cent voting that they did not care how their side was funded.
