Gavin Bazunu / £12m / Manchester City
Highly-rated young goalkeeper who was player of the year on loan at Portsmouth last season. Already has 10 caps for Ireland despite being just 20. Plenty of potential and this could look very shrewd in the future. 4/5
Romeo Lavia / £11m / Manchester City
A tenacious ball-winning midfielder who has captained Belgium's Under-19 side and was desperate to leave Manchester City in search of first-team football. It's difficult to say whether he can break into Southampton's side this season. 2/5.
Armel Bella-Kotchap / £9.5m / Vfl Bochum
A pacy, powerful but raw defender who has been criticised by previous managers for a lack of focus in training and lapses in concentration. 2/5
Joe Aribo / Undisclosed / Rangers
Excellent attacking midfielder who helped Rangers reach the final of last season's Europa League. A reported fee of £6 million looks like a snip for a talent that may well improve. 4/5
Sekou Mara / Undisclosed / Bordeaux
Southampton needed more depth up front but while 19-year-old Mara is an exciting prospect, he's unlikely to make the instant impact Saints need, while his goal record of six in 26 games for Bordeaux last season doesn't inspire confidence. 2/5

Southampton must learn how to protect a lead having dropped a league-high 29 points from winning positions last year. No team has dropped more points (73) than the Saints from winning positions since Ralph Hasenhuttl took charge in December 2018.
Southampton have won just four of their last 31 away Premier League fixtures.
Southampton have registered just two shutouts in their last 24 away league matches.
James Ward-Prowse scored four goals from free-kicks last season and has netted 44 per cent of his league goals from outside the box for Southampton.
Southampton never looked at serious risk of relegation last season but that may not be the case in 2022-23 unless they can address a steady decline in performance. The Saints took just five points from their final 12 games last season, dropping from ninth to 15th, and conceded 67 goals (the fourth highest in the division).
